Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
The Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker is one of several job titles in a number of states that fall under the umbrella of Clinical Social Work. The service provided by the Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker is mental health therapy with clients in a one on one, couples, family or group setting. Different Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers will on occasion have certain populations they specialize in and others will have a broader client base.
Education Requirements for Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
In order to attain licensure, the Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker must first have a Master of Social Work degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited school or university.
This means that you will have to have already earned your Bachelor’s degree. Most Master of Social Work (MSW) programs prefer their prospective students have a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree, although they may accept candidates who have their Bachelors in a highly related field of Behavioral Science such as Psychology, Counseling, Human Services or Sociology. Once you have earned your MSW degree you will need to complete your testing and supervised clinical experience which will vary from state to state.
